Service Terms
These Service Terms apply to watch service, restoration review, shipping, estimates, and related communications with L.M. Campbell, Inc. They are intended to set clear expectations before a watch is shipped, inspected, or serviced.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By using this website, submitting a service inquiry, emailing about service, shipping or delivering a watch, approving an estimate, or authorizing work, you agree to these Service Terms.
2. Independent Watch Service
L.M. Campbell, Inc. is an independent watch service business. Brand names are used only to identify customer-owned watches. L.M. Campbell, Inc. is not affiliated with, authorized by, sponsored by, or endorsed by any watch manufacturer unless expressly stated.
3. Estimates and Approval
- Initial comments based on photos, descriptions, or email are preliminary and are not a final diagnosis or binding estimate.
- A watch often must be physically inspected before a reliable recommendation or estimate can be provided.
- No paid service work will begin without customer approval of the proposed scope and price, except for minor administrative, inspection, or shipping-related charges that are disclosed in advance.
- Estimates may change if hidden damage, prior improper repairs, corrosion, missing parts, counterfeit parts, parts restrictions, or other issues are discovered.
4. Vintage, Used, and Previously Repaired Watches
Older and previously serviced watches may have worn, fragile, obsolete, modified, or unavailable parts. Service may improve function but cannot make every watch new, waterproof, factory-original, or perfectly accurate. Dials, hands, crystals, crowns, stems, cases, bracelets, screws, gaskets, and movement parts may be fragile or already compromised before service begins.
5. Water Resistance
Unless specifically stated in writing, water resistance is not guaranteed. Vintage watches, watches with worn cases, old crowns, case damage, missing gaskets, or prior modifications may not be suitable for water exposure even after service.
6. Customer-Provided Information and Value
- You are responsible for providing accurate contact information, shipping information, watch details, and any known service history or condition issues.
- You are responsible for identifying the watch's approximate current market value before shipment so appropriate shipping, declared value, insurance, or special handling can be discussed.
- Sentimental, heirloom, emotional, investment, or collector value may exceed market value, but those values are not assumed unless separately agreed to in writing.
7. Shipping Risk and Responsibility
Inbound shipping to L.M. Campbell, Inc.
The customer is responsible for packing the watch securely, selecting the carrier or shipping method, choosing any declared value or insurance, paying inbound shipping costs, and complying with carrier rules unless L.M. Campbell, Inc. expressly agrees otherwise in writing. Risk of loss, theft, delay, misdelivery, or damage during inbound transit remains with the customer.
Return shipping to the customer
Return shipping method, signature requirements, insurance, and declared value should be agreed before return shipment. Once a properly addressed package is tendered to the carrier, risk of carrier delay, loss, theft, misdelivery, or damage is subject to the carrier's terms, insurance, declared value rules, and claims process.
- L.M. Campbell, Inc. is not responsible for loss, theft, delay, misdelivery, or damage caused by a shipping carrier, third-party shipping service, porch delivery, incorrect address, customer-provided address error, inadequate inbound packaging, or a customer's failure to request or purchase adequate insurance or declared value coverage.
- Carrier declared value, insurance, and coverage rules vary by carrier and service. It is the customer's responsibility to review carrier limits, exclusions, packaging requirements, proof-of-value requirements, claim deadlines, and prohibited or restricted items.
- Claims for shipping loss or damage are limited to the amount actually paid by the carrier, insurer, or third-party shipping coverage provider, unless a different written agreement is signed by L.M. Campbell, Inc. before shipment.
- For high-value watches, do not ship until a specific written shipping plan is agreed. Additional insurance, third-party coverage, adult signature, registered mail, or specialized shipping may be recommended or required.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, L.M. Campbell, Inc. will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, sentimental, emotional, investment, market fluctuation, loss-of-use, loss-of-profit, or loss-of-opportunity damages.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, any liability of L.M. Campbell, Inc. related to a watch, service, estimate, handling, storage, website use, communication, or shipment is limited to the lesser of: the actual amount paid to L.M. Campbell, Inc. for the specific service at issue; the documented current market value of the watch as agreed in writing before service; the declared value or insured amount selected for the shipment; or the amount actually recovered from the carrier, insurer, or third-party coverage provider. No higher value is accepted unless L.M. Campbell, Inc. agrees in writing before receiving or shipping the watch.
9. Parts, Availability, and Substitutions
Some parts may be unavailable, obsolete, restricted by the manufacturer, aftermarket, donor-sourced, used, or unavailable at a practical price. No part substitution, refinishing, reluming, polishing, or non-original modification will be performed without customer approval when it materially affects originality or appearance.
10. Payment and Return of Property
Approved work, parts, shipping, inspection, and related charges must be paid before return shipment unless otherwise agreed. If a customer fails to respond, approve return shipping, or pay amounts due after repeated reasonable contact attempts, the watch may be treated as abandoned property to the extent allowed by applicable law.
11. Warranty
Covered service work may be subject to the Limited 12-Month Service Warranty described on the Warranty page. The warranty does not cover normal wear, accidental damage, water or moisture damage, magnetism, corrosion, misuse, customer or third-party handling, or issues unrelated to the service performed.
12. Website Information
Website content is provided for general information and may not reflect every service limitation, risk, price, or watch condition. Website information is not a guarantee that a watch can or should be serviced.
13. Governing Law
These Service Terms are intended to be governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
